Katy Perry: retro done well at 2009 MTV European Music Awards

Katy Perry is one of those pop tarts who bases their looks on vintage style and glamour.  Since  first making waves in the mid 2000s, Katy has shown up on numerous red carpets in shiny 1940s pin up style play-suits and short dresses.  Unlike some of the more provocative pop stars in the past few years, Perry has managed to make this style work for her without looking garish.

On Thursday, November 5, 2009, at the 2009 MTV European Music Awards Katy sported several fabulous vintage hairstyles and modern-retro ensembles.  A  very Mad Men-like bouffant up-do complimented a curve hugging black and white wiggle dress as the singer arrived at the awards. 

For her performance (and press conference on November 4, 2009) Perry channelled a very recent Dita Von Teese with smartly set head of waves and curls.  The look can be created with a basic roller set on shoulder length, layered hair. 

Katy's make up, slightly more modern than vintage, featured a matte foundation, neutral tone eyes lined with black liquid liner and heavy black mascara.
