Fletcher gripes, Liverpool draw with a dive, and could Arsenal contend for the title?

Darren Fletcher's been doing a lot of bleating lately, and not just during the Red Devils loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Now the Scottish international is moaning that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger's comments from weeks ago, in which he wasn't even named, has earned him a reputation, and of course had something to do with his side's loss on Sunday. Sir Alex Ferguson may give the perception that he knows how to play the mind games to deflect attention from his side's performances, but it may be perhaps a bit too early for Fletcher to try his hand at it. If Ferguson's cheeks are ruddier than normal and steam's still coming out of his ears, Alex McLeish's head should be spinning. Liverpool, at perhaps the lowest of lows, eke out a draw against Birmingham City thanks to a David Ngog dive. With Spanish striker Fernando Torres out and Steven Gerrard on the bench, Benitez's squad seem decimated in terms of any creative spark. Like Chelsea failing to impress against an admittedly tough Manchester United side on Saturday, Liverpool failed to stake a claim on a drive to secure fourth and turn around their poor form. Ngog's goal was quite nice, but Liverpool's defending on City's first goal was atrocious. Yes, Jamie Carragher was in the stands, but the Reds barely showed up today. [Soccernet]
Nothing is more deadly to a team's championship campaign than hyperbole and far-sightedness. Despite what we think of footballers' literacy, it's hard to ignore the headlines if you're in them. If you dig far enough, past the now-weekly Sir Alex Ferguson moaning about referees, and the mourning of Liverpool's championship and Champions League hopes, you'll find Arsenal in the enviable position of becoming a cute and cuddly challenger to Chelsea's machine-like march to the title. Scoring at will, the Gunners may be piling up the goals against some poor sides in a lackluster league at the moment, but there isn't much that separate them from Manchester United.
