Arsenal v. Wigan 2:45 pm, Tuesday November 11
A 2-1 victory over Manchester United should give Arsenal a boost, despite a myriad of injuries (as usual) and being genuinely knackered from a run of Champions League and domestic games. The Gunners meet up with a struggling Wigan, and it may be a good time to rest some regulars. It seems the League Cup is perhaps the most promising of competitions for Gooners, as the optimism of some silky-smooth youth sort of makes up for the cardiac rollercoaster that comes with following Arsenal. Look for the teens, like Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Carlos Vela to start. Experience often outplays callow youth, but without Emile Heskey, Wigan may find it tough at the Emirates. Tottenham Hotspur v. Liverpool 2:45 pm, Wednesday November 12
Stevie G is set to have a rest as the Reds come to White Hart Lane, where a resurgent Spurs has kept Harry Redknapp in the headlines for the past few weeks and the club out of the relegation zone. Looking to ride the high of not being as crap as they were under Juande Ramos, this is the sort of match where a result would add even more confidence to Spurs on their quest for midtable and their defense of the Carling Cup. For Liverpool, Fernando Torres is fit and Robbie Keane has broken his Liverpool cherry, so it should be interesting in the least to see if the Irish-Iberian duo up front can do the job. Or if they even care. There is, after all, all those other trophies to play for. [Canadian Press]
