*** UPDATE: Cats need your vote! Find out why. ***
Are you a cat person or dog person, or do you find there's just no way to choose one over the other?
Later this month, the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) and the American Kennel Club (AKC) are joining forces to sponsor the "Meet the Breeds" event in New York City's Javits Center. And as part of the buildup for the event, the organizations are conducting an online poll to find out whether cats or dogs have the top spot in people's hearts.
On the Meet the Breeds site you can declare yourself a loyal dog person or cat person. Sadly they do not offer the option to claim you are both equally, so you will have to either make a choice or abstain from voting. (Only one vote per computer is allowed.) But you can send an email to meetthebreeds@akc.org to explain your vote.
Then go to the Meet the Breeds flickr page and download the "Cats are #1" or "Dogs are #1" image to post on Facebook, MySpace, or your own site, or to include in emails to friends to encourage them to vote. you can also download a specific image for the dog or cat breed you favor, out of the 203 options provided.
The Meet the Breeds event will feature 41 cat breeds and 160 dog breeds. Attendees will be able to see demonstrations, talk to experts, and of course meet members of the dog and cat breeds close up. A display of children's art will also be included. Tickets are available in advance, at a cost of $10 per adult and $6 per child.
The results of the poll will be announced on meetthebreeds.com after October 14th.
