It’s summertime and that means grilling time! Grab your laptop and log onto www.foodsacrossamerica.com to sample some of the tastiest treats in the country. You can shop by region, state or simply food types. For example, you could have lobster from Maine for dinner paired up with crab cakes from Maryland and a New York style cheesecake for dessert.

We sampled the Usinger’s bratwursts, Vienna frankwurst, Polish sausage and New York pretzel. It’s a great way to sample the country’s best region’s of food without the travel expense. My husband boiled the bratwursts in beer and grilled them up, serving them up on a roll with some mustard and sauteed onions. (This is the ultimate tailgate snack!) The sausage lover’s package retails for $62.95.

Chicago is best known for its hot dogs so we had to sample the Vienna frankwursts. They were easy to cook – simply put them on the grill for a few minutes. These enormous half-pound dogs were almost too big to eat so we cut them in half and shared them. They also have natural casings that were delicious loaded with ketchup or your favorite condiment.

The Polish sausages tasted somewhat similar to the frankwursts but were spicier. We also put these on the grill and served them in hot dog rolls with spicy mustard.

The perfect accompaniment to a great sausage or bratwurst has to be a pretzel and what better way to enjoy than with a big fresh one straight from the oven. The doughy bread was perfectly salted and chewy on the outside. They are also a low-fat and cholesterol-free snack, which can be great for kids. We popped a few in the oven for just four minutes and they came out like the ones straight from the ballpark.

So after you log onto www.foodsacrossamerica.com, crack open the barbecue grills and enjoy a nice summer treat! For more information, you may also call (800) 621-4224.
