A dog named Willow was awarded the title of Europe’s Cutest Rescue Animal in a contest sponsored by PETA.

Willow lives with her human guardian, Chloe Hale in Welwyn Garden City, England. Hale adopted the dog and her mother named Pippin from the National Animal Welfare Trust in the UK.

Chloe said this about the contest, “The result is a fantastic piece of news. Not only is Willow cute, she also has a big personality.”

Chloe also reported that when Willow first came to live with her she suffered from agoraphobia and was afraid to go out in public, but that all changed when she was re-homed with her mother. Now the two dogs spend their days happily romping around.

PETA ran the contest to show that every animal is “precious” and in hope that people will look at Willow’s adorable picture and think about adopting a homeless pet when they are ready to add an animal to their family.

Just like the U.S., thousands of unwanted companion animals are euthanized every year in the UK after being turned over to animal shelters. There are simply not enough homes for every homeless pet. PETA also reminds people that they can stop pet overpopulation by having their cats and dogs spayed or neutered.
