To alleviate the financial crisis in California, Governor Schwarzenegger has proposed a misguided policy to shorten the holding time for pets housed at government owned animal shelters.

Currently homeless cats and dogs are given 6 days to either be returned to their owners or be adopted into new families.  After that time, they are sent to be euthanized.  The new policy Governor Schwarzenegger would like to see enacted will cut that time in half, allowing only 3 short days for abandoned animals to be adopted.

The Governor views this as a mere budget cut to save the state from bankruptcy, but what he neglects to fully absorb is that, he is taking the lives of innocent cats, dogs, kittens and puppies.

The animal welfare organization Last Chance for Animals has produced a short video that clearly explains the repercussions of this policy.  It also explains how you can lend your support to stop homeless pets from being killed.

Please take a look at the video and forward this important message to other animal lovers.  The homeless cats and dogs in California are counting on you.
