Bo, the 6-month-old puppy now residing in the White House will star in his own children’s book called Bo, America’s Commander in Leash. The book which was written by Naren Aryal, illustrated by Danny Moore and published by Mascot Books will be in stores next week.
Bo, America’s Commander in Leash is geared for kids aged 4 to 10 and will feature a fun-filled day in the life of the new first puppy.
The book has been in the works for two months. Aryal wrote it from the perspective of a playful puppy and filled in the details after the real Bo was adopted.
The new book joins several other children’s books about the new first puppy. Which Puppy? by Kate Feiffer and illustrated by Jules Feiffer is about a contest to live in the White House and First Dog by J. Patrick Lewis and Beth Zappitello, illustrated by Tim Bowers is about a Portuguese water dog.
Surely children across the country will enjoy the funny antics of the puppies in these three books, but the inspiring part of having the real Bo at the White House is that a whole generation of kids will see that pets are family members who are treated with love, kindness and understanding.
