The beautifully crafted television commercial showing a constant stream of pictures of homeless cats and dogs with the haunting melody from the song "Angel" sung by
Sarah McLachlan in the background has made history with the amount of money it raised. The two-minute advertisement generated an estimated record-breaking $30 million for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
McLachlan asked to look the mission of the organization and read some of their literature and the rest is history. The commercial became the most successful fund-raising effort for the ASPCA and has created a buzz throughout all of animal rescue organizations.
The ad not only gave supporter a way to donate, but it attracted nearly 200,000 new donors to the organization. The success of the commercial will benefit more than the ASPCA, who has now increased its grant program to smaller rescue groups by 900%.
A new commercial featuring Sarah McLachlan will be launched later this month.
