Thirty abandoned little puppies dumped in a field in Concord, New York have been rescued. Animal control officers are searching for more puppies that may have wandered into the nearby woods and the people responsible for this abuse.
A passenger in a car noticed a pack of very young puppies wandering in a field in upstate NY last Sunday and called Animal Control for help.
The thirty puppies are young Terriers and mixed breeds. Some of them are sick and all of them were covered in filth. One puppy has died from apparently being hit by a car. Humane traps with tempting treats have been set in the field to try to lure any remaining puppies still running around on their own. The rest of the young dogs have been moved to the Erie County SPCA for safekeeping.
"The animals were petrified last night. Very afraid. Many of them had high fevers, and they were covered in feces, “said Gina Browning with the SPCA.
The dogs were examined by veterinarians at the SPCA and many reportedly have skin diseases, skin infections and injuries from excessive scratching from fleas. And surprisingly the vets discovered that several of them are pregnant.
Animal control and police officers suspect that the dogs may have come from a puppy mill or backyard breeder. Investigators are trying to discover who would treat these tiny puppies so cruelly.
The SPCA is asking anyone in the area who may have seen anything, to contact them. Hopefully the puppies will all make a healthy recovery and will eventually be placed for adoption.
