Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and The National Dog Show a new holiday tradition
If you are a dog lover, the TV selection for Thanksgiving Day will definitely be a treat. First, there is America’s favorite Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade which will be followed by the esteemed National Dog Show sponsored by
Purina.
If you are asking yourself why a dog enthusiast would be excited about the Macy’s parade it is because of one little canine named Uno. On February 12
th Uno made history as the first beagle to ever win Best in Show at the
Westminster Kennel Club competition. In honor of his new title, a special float was created and he will proudly ride on it with dog expert and commentator for The National Dog Show, David Frei. Kathy Weichert who co-owns Uno thinks he will have a great time, but worries about the cold weather since the beagle is not used to being outdoors very often.
Following the parade Uno will make an appearance at The Purina National Dog Show where he will be taking pictures with people to collect donations for the therapy dog program called,
Angel on a Leash. This non-profit organization trains dogs to work at hospitals, hospices, schools and correctional facilities.
The National Dog Show, sponsored by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia, will feature more than 2,000 of the top dogs in the country.
John O’Hurley, who has served as the host of the canine competition since it began in 2002 will return this year, as well. He calls the show the Kentucky Derby of dog shows because, “It is like watching these thoroughbreds walk down toward the starting gate. You get the sense that this is the best of what it could possibly be.”
So dog lovers’ serve up a big plate of food and settle in for two great events that are becoming a time honored tradition on Thanksgiving Day.
