Brad Pitt and wife, Angelina Jolie at Int. Film Festival/AP:  Francois Mori

Yes, you read the headline correctly!  An internet campaign has been started to provoke the idea of actor Brad Pitt running for Mayor of New Orleans in 2010.

The idea was the brainstorm of a Tulane professor, Dr. Thomas Bayer.  Bayer feels that Pitt has what it takes to be the next mayor of New Orleans and hopes that all the publicity stirred by the announcement will entice the popular actor to put his name on the ballot, or at least think about it!

New Orleans businessman Josh Harvey agrees that Pitt will make a great mayor for the city.  He took the original t-shirt design from Bayer and printed up a batch of  "Brad Pitt for Mayor" t-shirts.  The t-shirts can be purchased for $20 at the Storyville T-shirt Shop on Magazine Street.  They have been flying out the door as local residents are scooping them up as fast as tourists coming in to browse.  A portion of all sales will be donated to Pitt's Make It Right Foundation.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie purchased a home in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.  The actor has been very involved in the rebuilding of the lower 9th ward and has donated time and money to his "Make It Right" project for rebuilding in the 9th Ward.  Pitt's latest movie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which received an Oscar nomination was filmed in New Orleans.

So far, no comments from Brad.
