
The DC sniper, John Allen Muhammad, has died by lethal injection. His death was recorded at 9:11 pm. Eastern Standard Time according to news reports Tuesday night November 10, 2009. The injection took place at Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt, Virginia.
Muhammad was behind the three week sniper attacks that terrorized the nation's capitol in 2002, leaving 10 people dead in attacks that covered several states. The shootings were random and the attacks were on innocent people going about their normal routines. Muhammad was also suspected
of killings in Louisiana, Arizona, Washington, and Alabama.
He was convicted of killing Dean Howard Meyers at a gas station in Virginia and sentenced to death. Muhammad was also convicted of killing six people in Maryland and received six life sentences for those crimes.
Muhammad was captured on October 24, 2002 along with a teenage accomplish as they slept overnight at a Maryland rest area. The teenager involved was Lee Boyd Malvo, who was sentenced to life in prison.
Muhammad appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court yesterday for a pardon, which was denied. The Governor of Virginia also denied clemency for Muhammad.
Muhammad spent his final hours visiting with family members before the execution. He was 48 years old.
