The CW is reportedly considering a spinoff of it popular drama "Gossip Girl."
Variety is reporting the network may test the waters for a spinoff by devoting an episode of "Gossip Girl" to the new characters. That move, which is known in the industry as a "backdoor pilot," would give the network the chance to gauge the viewers interest in the spinoff before officially ordering it for next fall.
A "Gossip Girl" spinoff has been rumored for awhile, especially since the book series of the same name has its own spinoff, "The It Girl."
That book spinoff focuses on the character Jenny Humphrey (played on TV by Taylor Momsen). But Variety reports the proposed spinoff won't feature that character, although it's not clear if it would instead focus on one of the show's remaining eight main characters.
The CW had been focusing its fall development plans on "The Graysons," a drama focused on the early years of Batman's sidekick, Robin. That project has now been scrapped, opening up the way for this potential spinoff.
