
So you think you know German food? Think again. It's not all about schnitzel and bratwurst. The esteemed Michelin Red Guide recently awarded 24 German restaurants one Michelin star and another, its second star. In addition, 9 German restaurants still retain their 3-star status.
This 2010 Michelin Germany Guide news celebrates its 100th birthday and 42 year-old chef Martin Herrmann of Le Pavillon restaurant in Hotel Dollenberg also celebrates since his kitchen went from a one-star to a two-star rating. The two-star restaurant Le Pavillon is located near the Black Forest between Baden-Baden and Freiburg, Germany.
France's Michelin Red Guide has been rating exquisite hotels and restaurants since the early 1900s using its one, two, or three star rating. The rating is based on quality of the products, mastery of flavor and cooking, "personality" of the cuisine, value for the money, and also very important, the consistency between visits.
Unfortunately 14 German restaurants are no longer on the list due to the financial crisis but good news continues for the 2010 rating. Two German female chefs have been added to the list making a total of eight female Michelin-starred chefs in Germany. Only one country France, has more Michelin stars than Germany. The Michelin stars were awarded to the following German restaurants:

Who are the Michelin guides that have the honor to eat and rate food at the finest restaurants in the world? No one knows but there are lots of people that would love to sign-up.
