Last night kicked off the opening of the international Enjoy Jazz festival in Heidelberg. Jazz fans lined up at the Heidelberg castle which towers above the old university town high above the banks of the Neckar river. The fairy tale 13th century castle, mostly in ruins now, made for the perfect acoustic and romantic setting for last night's concert.
The Enjoy Jazz festival in its 11th season, presents six weeks of great jazz musicians among three cities. The array of jazz is varied as are the devoted fans who have the chance to see jazz greats such as Richard Bona, Branford Marsalis, Joshua Redman, Cassandra Wilson, and Jan Garbarek in open and intimate settings.
Jazz fans and music lovers were treated to a spectacular opening concert by the 74 year-young saxophonist Charles Lloyd and his band. The Charles Lloyd New Quartet, Jason Moran (piano), Reuben Rogers (bass), and Nasheet Waits (drums), wooed the audience for over 3 hours with the power, spirit, and funk you would expect from the Memphis born artist.
