Does anyone remember the tune of their local ice cream truck? *Pop quiz!*  Get this, each of the Seattle area Joe’s ice cream trucks plays their own unique tune.  I’ll share, as I actually remember this, which is kind of scary, my Joe truck played “Camp Town Races”, oh the doo-da day indeed!!  The tinkling, slightly out of tune song announced to the neighborhood that the Joe truck was only a few blocks away and that you had better raid your father’s change cup, fast.

While prices have changed over the years and more over the development of flavors beyond our collective wildest dreams, the standards such as, simple chocolate, plain vanilla, and canned strawberry are no longer the acceptable standards.

It seems to me Seattleites have found a new local favorite ice cream shop in the Green lake/Wallingford area of town.  Molly Moon’s Homemade Ice Cream, 1622 ½ N. 45TH ST, Seattle, 98103.  The sign out front just reads, “Ice Cream”, and only on a closer sideways glace do you see the cute neon sign with a Boston terrier on it, announcing to the world where Molly Moon’s resides.  Of course you might figure it out, by seeing the long lines out front.

Let your mind go free and ponder, while standing in line, how Maple Walnut or Cardamom ice cream might be able to excite your taste buds.  The distinctive names only give you a slight hint of what you are about to experience.  And as time marches on, so do prices, granted this isn't a $.55 scoop shop, the price for a waffle cone and a organic scoop of bliss will run you about $4 and some change.

Check out Thai Ice Tea, or Honey Lavender, you might even fancy a scoop of Salted Caramel, and should you be bold enough to ask for a double scoop, try topping that off with a bit of Vivace Coffee.  And well should old habits, hard to die, and you wish to stick to the old time favorites, yes they have chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flavors. Organic products abound, and the flavors of the local ingredients shine through.  My suggestion would be to forgo the usual suspects and check out the Balsamic Strawberry or the Ginger flavors!

Searching the Molly Moon website, I found a “suggestion” box, for flavors, should you like to see something unusual, drop them a note.  Me?  Well, I might slip a note in and ask for Banana’s Foster.

Ice cream here is PURE YUM!
