Tasty meat treats from a local favorite!
With summer somewhat coming to a close, calendar-wise, I was reminded of one of my favorite passages of summer in my youth, Seafair. While few “new-comers” really understand what Seafair is all about, my passion for “Thunder on the Lake” is still ingrained in my memory banks.
Back in the day, Oberto's sponsored a hydro-plane race team, they weren't the best equipped group nor did they often "finish" the race but they were a Lake Washington race day standard during Seafair none the less. There simply wasn't anything better than to sit along the shores of Lake Washington and smell the fumes of burnt racing fuel coming from Stan Sayres pits. And while sitting under the Seattle summer sun, without sunscreen of course, and a bit of dirt in your mouth from all the dust being whipped up in the air along the shores of Lake Washington, there was no way better to celebrate Seafair, than by cheering on our hometown favorite race team, Oberto's. We'd scream at the top of our lungs, "OOOOOOH BOY OOOOOOH-BERTO!!!" As the ever so slow Oberto hydro-plane came to a sputtering stop and yet another DNF(Did Not Finish), at Seafair....ahhh good times....
While things have changed a lot since I was a kid, big corporations have been picking off long time Seattle "local" companies and family favorites, and the Oberto hydro-plane is actually a winner now and then, Oberto's itself is still happily chugging along and still has a hold on my heart. Not just the cholesterol levels in my blood stream, (Thank God for Lipitor.) but by producing what I consider some of the world's finest tasty MEAT treats around. And great deals can be found at the Factory store on Rainier Avenue south, and one of the biggest secrets are the lunch-time deals that can be had for about $5 bucks! Give them a jingle to find out what the special of the day is, and head on down to the factory store for a treat! The number one combo for me, Hotlink in a bun, chips and a drink, not a bad deal, and while you are at it, check out all the great deals on both regular and bulk sizes of jerky treats. You’ll be glad you did! Oooooooooooh Boy Ooooooooooo-berto!!!!!
