Some movies inspire you to dream big and travel far.  How many times have we wished that we were the ones walking on the beach, riding a motorcycle through the jungle, or pushing a van on our way to a beauty pageant?  Ok maybe not the pageant so much, but it is easy to get swept up in the films we watch.  Don't let them only be entertainment you watch.  Maybe the following movies might inspire your next vacation.

Motorcycle DiariesMotorcycle Diaries
South America
Motorcycle Diaries chronicles the story of a young Ernesto 'Che' Guevara and his friend Alberto Granado, who because of a desire to truly see their continent, they decide to travel throughout South America on motorcycle.  They start their journey in Argentina and go through Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Venezuela.  It may be a bit ambitious to travel on a motorcycle, but after watching this movie you are left inspired to go off the beaten path.  Don't stay at the resort, get out and truly see the places you visit.

Vicky Cristina BarcelonaVicky Cristina Barcelona
Barcelona and Oviedo
Woody Allen brilliantly tells the story of two American women, Scarlett Johansson and Rebecca Hall, on holiday in Barcelona.  Their lives are changed when they meet artist Javier Bardem.  Little do they know that Bardem comes with a lot of baggage, in the form of his fiery ex-wife Penelope Cruz.  Nothing like some paint, fireworks, and unusual living styles to spice up an otherwise boring routine.  Barcelona is featured in the film as an artistic city full of passion, comparable to the crazy characters that it inhabits in the film. Bardem also takes the two women to Oviedo, in northwestern Spain to visit his father.  After watching this Woody Allen film, you will want your own Iberian adventure, sans the crazy ex-wife.

EurotripEurotrip
Europe
What freshly graduated teen has not wanted to head off to Europe for the summer, looking for adventure, legal drinking, and one night stands?  Eurotrip is a comedy about a group of friends who go to Europe to help a friend find his pen pal Mieke, who incidentally is a girl (he thought Mieke was a Mike).  They travel to London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, and Eastern Europe.  Using extremely exaggerated stereotypes the film displays the American point of view of what to expect in Europe.  Just remmeber, be careful on the trains.  Mi scusi mi scusi!

CasablancaCasablanca
Casablanca
Considered one of the best films of all time, Casablanca, is set in Casablanca Morocco during World War II.  Rick Blaine is an exiled American who runs a local nightclub.  Since Casablanca was often the route refugees sought to escape Nazi ruled Europe, many people passed through, including Rick Blaine's lost love Ilsa Lund, played by Ingrid Bergman.  Even though the movie is plagued with war and conflict, it is hard not to get enthralled in all the drama.

Lost in TranslationLost in Translation
Tokyo
A disenchanted movie star and a neglected newlywed meet at a bar hotel in Tokyo.  Hours away from anything they would consider familiar, the unlikely duo find companionship in one another as they struggle to adapt to Japanese culture.  This well-written film, by Sofia Coppola explores cultural differences and the way they can change us and affect the way we travel.

OnceOnce
Dublin
How often do you find the right person?  The movie tagline suggests that it may only be once.  This must see movie, tells the story of a busker living in Dublin and his encounter with a woman who stops him one evening and requests a song.  The pair soon become close friends and learn just how important and rare a connection like theirs can be in a city like Dublin.  A realistic movie with believable characters and a great soundtrack.

50 First Dates50 First Dates
Hawaii
A romantic comedy about Lucy, a woman who suffers from short term memory loss, and the man, Henry, who falls for her.  In true chick flick fashion Henry is commitment phobic before he meets his girl.  Along with the quintessential Adam Sandler humor, the film has the beautiful backdrop of Hawaii, as Henry struggles to win Lucy's affection each and every single day, since she has no recollection of their first meeting.

Little Miss SunshineLittle Miss Sunshine
USA Roadtrip
Olive Hoover has the chance of a lifetime, to enter the Little Miss Sunshine pageant.  The only problem is that the pageant is in California.  Now the family is forced to travel together cross-country in the small confines of their VW bus.  The family includes Olive's father, a failing self help guru, her eccentric grandfather, her suicidal uncle, her worried mother, and her brother who has taken a vow of silence.  Viewers beware, despite the crazy family, after watching this movie you may have the urge to travel cross-country in a yellow VW bus.  Maybe even enter a pageant or two.

Amelie GnomeAmelie
Paris
The cinematography alone for this movie will make any nomadic heart book the next flight for Paris.  Not to mention the scene where Amelie's father starts receiving pictures of his garden gnome traveling all over the world, or the scavenger hunt she sets up at the Sacre de Coeur for the stranger she fancies.  Amelie is a naive dreamer on a quest to make everyone else's life a little better, but in the process she neglects her own life.  Somehow Amelie makes ordinary routine seem extraordinary.

Il PostinoIl Postino
Sicily
A reserved, fisherman's life is changed when the exiled writer Pablo Neruda moves to his small town in Sicily.  He is hired as a postman because of the extra post received for their new visitor.  Neruda then helps the postman court a local waitress he has fallen for by sending her poetry.  The bike ride along the coast that the postman takes to Neruda's home is enough to make anyone want to exile themselves in Italy.
