Wasn’t it George Bernard Shaw who said, “When a stupid man is doing something he’s ashamed of, he will always declare that it is his duty”?
This past week found Fox News commentator Geraldo Rivera, Oklahoma state representative Sally Kern and Michael Scheuer, the former chief of the CIA’s Osama Bin Laden unit, reporting for duty.
Rivera, appearing on the Bill O’Reilly Show, told the host that he would not weep if some violent act were to be perpetrated upon convicted child-rapist David Earls.
Earls, who benefited from a judge’s sentence of just one year in jail for the horrific crime, has been a target of O’Reilly’s ire for weeks.
During the segment O’Reilly pointedly asks Rivera, “If Earls ever walks out of jail and gets killed, who are they going to blame?”
Rivera, noting some of the media’s reaction to O’Reilly’s ‘connection’ to the murder of abortion doctor George Tiller, looked directly at the audience and declared that he does not encourage vigilantism.
“I think it is something that puts your own life at risk. I do not advise it, I do not counsel it,” Rivera responded. “I will not, however, weep if David Earls is found sometime on a country road.”
O’Reilly responded by saying an attack on the child rapist would be as “morally wrong as what Earls’ did.”
“I don’t quite agree with your moral reasoning,” Rivera added. “You’re more moral than I am.”
Morals took center stage in a proclamation issued by Oklahoma representative Sally Kern when she stated her belief that America’s economic woes are a direct result of our “greater national moral crisis.”
Kern, who made news last year when she said “homosexuality was the biggest threat our nation has – even more so than terrorism or Islam,” is now alarmed that the government is “forsaking its rich Christian heritage.”
Kern’s proclamation claims the United States is the world leader in promoting abortion, pornography, same-sex marriage, sex trafficking, child abuse, divorce, illegitimate births and many other forms of debauchery.
Flying to Argentina to schtup your mistress was surprisingly not included.
According to Kern’s proclamation your 401K, Wall Street greed, the incompetent folks at the Fed and Frannie and Freddie, Bernie Madoff and the other three thousand factors that have crushed our economy can also be blamed on President Obama’s recent shunning of National Prayer Day.
Still, for all of America’s woes, Michael Scheuer thinks the deployment and detonation of a major weapon inside our borders is the sure-fire cure.
Appearing recently on Fox News’ Glenn Beck show, the former chief of the CIA unit created to keep tabs on Osama bin Laden, told the host America’s only saving grace can come from a weapons-grade enema.
Beck, in a conversation centered on protecting our borders, asked Scheuer if he truly believed that congress and the leaders of the land would not do the right thing and see the error of their ways.
Scheuer, responding like any other red-blooded, patriotic American, answered thusly:
“No, sir, they will not. The only chance we have as a country right now is for Osama bin Laden to deploy and detonate a major weapon in the United States because it’s going to take a grass-roots, bottoms-up pressure… only Osama can execute an attack which will force Americans to demand that their government protect them effectively, consistently and with as much violence as necessary.”
Maybe the Einstein quote would have been more apropos: “Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former.”
