Anne Coulter: On the book circuit, but off NBC (AP Photo)

According to the Drudge Report, top-selling conservative author Anne Coulter has been banished from NBC – for life.

What started as a spot cancellation of an appearance on tomorrow’s Today Show – allegedly because of statements made in her forthcoming book “Guilty: Liberal ‘Victims’ and Their Assault on America” - has become a perpetual ban.

According to Drudge, sources at NBC claimed they were "just not interested in anyone so highly critical of President-elect Obama, right now."

One is forced to wonder why - after dozens of appearances on NBC-owned programs - the Peacock brass picks this book on which to make a stand.

After all, The Today Show (among others) helped Coulter sell numerous copies of previous writings, which also boasted some of the sharp-elbowed polemist's most scathing commentaries.

Coulter has taken on 9/11 widows, Swiftboat Veterans, Al Gore, Bill Clinton, and pretty much everyone in America who is registered (or elected) as a democrat. And, the Today Show had her as a guest not long after she referred to presidential candidate John Edwards as a 'faggot.'

She has also famously spit venom in the face of republicans - most recently pledging to vote for Hillary Clinton if John McCain were to receive the republican presidential nomination.

But when it comes to the Messiah of Obamalot, NBC draws the line.

It’s a good thing they don’t have inflammatory hosts over there at MSNBC – we may end up with some guy in ladies eye wear hurling insults at anyone who is registered (or elected) as a republican.

If NBC's intention was to punish the popular author they could have been a bit more creative - this ban will sell more books than any three minute interview by that hard-hitting marshmallow, Matt Lauer.

But creative and NBC aren't often used in the same sentence (see: Howie Do It).

The network just pushed the button of someone who makes their living pushing buttons. Anne Coulter - and her bank account - thank you.
