It seems like every new day brings yet another spate of candidates vying for the Parents of the Year Award.
Today’s contestants are Debra Chappell and James Seevers of Leesburg, Florida. Debra and James: bring your cockroach-covered two-year-old and c’mon down!
Leesburg police checking the couple’s home described the living conditions in the dwelling as “not being fit for animals.”
The swine inhabiting the family room were offended by the cops’ assessment.
The police report noted that “thousands of cockroaches were swarming inside the structure,” and one officer was forced to jump out of the way because of the amount of roaches that “rained down on him” when he opened the refrigerator.
Police also discovered cupboards overflowing with the critters, and reported they were crawling all over the child in her crib.
Additionally, photos and video taken of the scene showed a floor so covered with garbage and junk that it was nearly impossible to walk through, as well as piles of soiled diapers and a kitchen full of dirty dishes.
Police – caught in a moment of describing the bloody obvious – also noted a “sickly smell” surrounding the outside of the house.
As Chappell and Seevers were taken into custody (and the child was being removed from the home), they told police they had only lived in the sty for four months.
Well that explains it – we all know how overwhelming it can be to live out of boxes of landfill waste after that move-in.
