While websites such as BackwardsBush.com post countdown clocks of George W. Bush’s last days in office (as does NewPrez.com, endofbush, officialbushcountdown, etc., etc), there is one solitary spot on the web where we Americans can profess our sincere gratitude to the 43rd President of these here United States.
In a home page message meant to inspire the 29 percent who currently approve of his job performance, Thank You President George W. Bush expresses their appreciation for his “integrity, morals, selflessness and love for [your] fellow man.”
Insert your own Iraq War, Guantanamo and Katrina jokes here.
The anonymous web host – who can be contacted only at info@thankyoupresidentgeorgewbush.com, tells the visitor in the ‘contact us’ section that the site is “a simple non-political thank you note to President George W. Bush for his eight years of efforts in protecting the sanctity of human life.”
Some of the ‘thank yous’ thus far include charges of war crimes, requisite Hitler comparisons, sole responsibility for the destruction of the Republican Party, and lots of colorful phrases and nicknames not suitable for a news website.
You, too, can visit the website and leave your thoughts on the last eight years, and see if you agree with the site’s assessment that we “could not have felt more secure with anyone other than [you] at the helm.”
In the interest of fairness, the first 700 well-wishes are sincere and appreciative - the most recent postings, well, not so much.
