
The college tennis season is in full swing and there's lots to report out there. Let's take a look at some of what happened over the past few days:
Rhyne Williams of Tennessee won the Georgia Tech Fall Tournament. The freshman defeated teammate Mateo Fago in the final, 6-1,6-4. Carlos Alvarez and Gera Boryachinksiy of Clemson took the doubles title at that event with a 9-8(1) win over Miguel Mugurza and Ryan Smith of Georgia Tech;
UCLA was the big winner at the Cal Nike Invitational with Yasmin Schnack taking the Gold singles and then teaming with Andrea Remynse for the doubles. Host California also had a great showing with newcomers Tayler Davis and Kasia Siwosz winning Blue Doubles;
Rice’s Rebekkah Hanle and Tulsa’s Alexandra Kichoutkin were Co- Women’s Players of the Month by Conference USA. Bruno Rosa, also of Rice, took the men’s honor;
Darlyn Greenan has left his position at the University of Iowa to take over as the new women’s head coach at Mississippi State University;
The first major collegiate event of the year has also begun. Pre-Qualfiying is done and Qualifying is in progress at the D'Novo ITA Men's All American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the Riviera Women's All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, California.
