Football fans and the NFL are mourning the shocking loss of longtime Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens MVP Steve McNair.
McNair was found dead in a Nashville area condominium Saturday, July 4 inflicted with multiple gun shot wounds.
Investigators are reportedly treating the case as a possible murder suicide, as McNair was found with a female companion who had one gun shot wound to the head unlike the noted athlete.
Born in 1973, McNair began his NFL career with the Houston Oilers in 1995. After spending a reported four years with the Oilers (Houston and Tennessee), McNair began what would become his most successful and award winning portion of his career as a Tennessee Titan. As pictured (right), McNair earned a co-MVP title (shared with Peyton Manning) in 2003 due to his 100.4 passer rating. He was later named Sports Illustrated Player of the Year, Sports Illustrated All-Pro, second team Associated Press All-Pro, and Pro Bowl starter.
According to McNair's official website, he completed 250 of 400 pass attempts covering 3,215 yards, earning 24 touchdowns and suffering only seven interceptions in 2003.
McNair is survived by a wife (Mechelle) and four sons.
In celebration of McNair's life and legacy, the NFL has set up a Steve McNair tribute with fellow NFL players including Eddie George remembering the MVP. Visit NFL.com to view the series of video tributes.
