The battle is on for the number one spot on both the R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart and Billboard Hot 100 chart this week.
After leaping 10 spots (13-3) on the Billboard Hot 100 and two spots on the R&B/Hip Hop Songs tally last week, the Alicia Keys featured Jay-Z single "Empire State of Mind" could reach no.1 this week.
Potentially unseating Maxwell's over ten week domination of the R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart, "Empire State of Mind" may also dethrone last week's no.1 charting single "Whatcha Say" (Jason Derulo) on the coveted Hot 100 tally.
As previously reported, "Empire State of Mind" is a follow up to Jay-Z's Rihanna and Kanye West featured hit "Run This Town".
Not far behind "Empire State of Mind" is recently divorced Diamond-selling singer Usher. Swiftly climbing the R&B/Hip Hop songs tally, Usher's latest single "Papers" is also in the running for a no.1 or perhaps no.2 spot on the chart.
Just a little over three weeks ago "Papers," the lead single from Usher's forthcoming disc "Raymond Vs. Raymond," leaped 43 spots on the R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart (60-17) and later jumped another seven spots to reach no.5 (12-5).
In related news, Usher just unveiled ads for his latest fragrance to be launched at Macy's titled "VIP'. Watch video and view photos from the ad campaign shoot HERE.
"Raymond Vs. Raymond" is due in stores early 2010.
