New York TV station WCBS found the posted calorie counts of popular breakfast items at New York City-area Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts restaurants were inaccurate.
Some examples:
Dunkin Donuts blamed the discrepencies on recipe reformulations; Starbucks said it temporarily pulled the muffin from the menu and blamed the inaccuracy on the fact that the products have "handcrafted components."
Yummmmm ... components.
Last year, New York City became the first municipality to mandate menu labeling, so it's easier to check the numbers in NYC.
I don't mind a few extra calories here and there, but when it gets to over 100 calories, that can make or break a diet if you're a calorie counter.
