The show kicked right off with a challenge – everyone has to stand on a block on one foot. The last person standing wins a 24-hour visit with a loved one from home. Balancing on a block is quite a tough feat. Filipe was the consummate gentleman when Mandi pleaded with him to let her win. That went well for her so she tried it on Blaine and he stepped off, too, as did her sister Aubrey.
Bob talked to the Brown Team about how they can step up their weight loss. He suggested that Mike add calories to stoke the metabolic fire, given his age and activity level. Jillian had qualms about Mandy winning the visit with her husband since apparently her husband wasn’t all that thrilled with her participating on the show.
Nice little yoga interlude with Bob. (By the way, his Biggest Loser DVD yoga segments are great.) Conversely, Jillian had her players try and punch each other in the face with boxing gloves.
Bob then took his team on a Subway marathon. They hiked from the ranch to a Subway, got a snack, then walked another 2 miles to another Subway.
The other challenge: Team members had to hold a big metal pole over their heads above a sensor bar. The winners get immunity at the weigh-in. After an hour the teams weren’t able to switch arms. My only frame of reference on something like this is putting up a shower curtain, and all that over-the-head arm stuff kills me. After 2 hours they had to put both hands on the bar. Oh, and did I mention that the bar was metal and it was night and it was near freezing? The Green Team was trying to cut a deal with the Purple Team just to end it. This crazy thing went on for 4 hours and 40 minutes and the Purple Team was victorious.
Not only did Mandi get to see her husband, she got to see her sons as well. She then showed her husband and kids the kinds of workouts she goes through at the gym.
Quote of the week, from Mandi’s family: “Why’s it called The Mile?” “Because it’s a mile.”
Gee, Jillian makes the Last-Chance workout sound so fun: “Everyone knows what Last-Chance workout is. It’s beatings. Bloody, brutal, crappy, miserable, exhausting beatings that last all day and all night.” And yes, Jillian, you did sound like a monster when you got ticked that Mandi wanted to see her husband and kids for one last hour. But in the end she let her go.
Weigh-in and elimination: Only one team goes below the yellow line this week and one of them will get voted off. Kristin, who had immunity, gained 2 pounds. I call shenanigans, ie: water loading. What better week to do that then when your number doesn’t count? Once again, Tara of the Miami Pound Machine lost double digits. Blue Team also pulled huge numbers and Filipe made it below the 300-pound mark. Mikey dropped 13 pounds by eating more. Bob rubbed it in: “See what happens when you listen to me, America?” Blaine basically asked the crew to vote him home. And they did. Now he's down 86 pounds and training for an Ironman competition.
