Jillian and Bob kicked off the show by bursting through the screen to wag their fingers at us and slap us in the face about America's obesity epidemic.
And what a slap in the face it was. This season promises to be very dramatic.
(BTW, the song played at the beginning was This is My Now by Jordin Sparks.)
The contestants hit the gym and proceeded to workout while Bob and Jillian watched on closed-circuit TV to see just how lost they were. And they were. After the dynamic duo introduced themselves to the gang, White Team Jerry started wobbling and passed out. Paramedics took him to a hospital for tests and observation. Once they had the teams chosen it was initial weigh-in time.
Here's the lineup:
Jerry got back from the hospital later that night, more motivated than ever.
The challenge: Everyone was up on a bridge ready to do an obstacle course bringing new meaning to the phrase "go pound sand." The Black Team won over the Yellow Team. The prize: immunity at the weigh-in.
Then it was time to meet with Dr. Huizenga, which is always an eye-opener. Intramuscular fat, fatty liver, diabetes, high blood pressure, decreased lung capacity, cholesterol problems, advanced biological aging -- all from obesity.
The last-chance workout brought out the mental weaknesses in some of the team members. And getting your head right is even more important than getting your eating and exercise right.
Weigh-in: The only two teams that are safe from elmination are the Black Team and the team who wins the weigh-in. Everyone else is up for the boot. Brown Team stayed above the yellow line. But the big news was that the White Team -- the 63-year-olds -- were in the running for much of the weigh-in. Yes, folks, oldsters can kick butt.
Elimination: The team members from the remaining teams have to choose one person to send home. But there is a way back: In 30 days, if their teammate is still in the game, they get to come back.
So, what did you think?
