Among the myriad weight-loss sites to which I belong, I'm a member of SparkPeople.com, the fantastic FREE site devoted to healthy living. Today I received in my inbox an article from them that I've read before but really need to "live" -- Stay Consistent With the Go To Meal (I'm pretty sure you can read it if you're not a member but if you need or want to sign up, tell 'em skinnygail sent you).
In a nutshell, it says when you don't have a plan for dinner (like, oh, tonight!) have a standby meal that won't send you to the drive-through or the pizza delivery guy. Beans and rice, peanut butter and jelly, peas and tuna -- shelf-stable or freezer-friendly foods that you can keep on hand for when you fail to plan.
Remember that old SNL skit with Delta Burke in a Weight Watchers meeting? "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail."
The docs from You: On A Diet: The Owner's Manual for Waist Management are also fans of a favorite meal and suggest that if there's a combo that you really like, repeat it as often as you want if you know that it works for you.
My go-to meal is an awesome Salmon-Potato Salad that is simply a big can of pink salmon mixed with a chopped bell pepper (any color), a chopped small onion, 4 small red potatoes boiled and chopped, 4 teaspoons or so of olive oil, 2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar, the juice of a lemon, and 1/4 cup of either chopped Italian parsley or cilantro. It serves 4 over a bed of greens. I don't have the nutritionals but it's easy enough to figure out.
So, what's your "go-to" meal?
