Last month, while President-elect Obama was vacationing in Hawaii with his family, he was spotted holding a mysterious yellow book, which was discovered to be Younger Next Year: Live Strong, Fit, and Sexy—Until You're 80 and Beyond, by Chris Crowley and Henry Lodge.
Good idea, Mr. Soon-to-Be-President. The job of commander in chief tends to age people quicker than the average person. (Stress, anyone?) And we certainly want the leader of the free world to remain "Strong, Fit and Sexy," don't we? It also allows him to occasionally indulge in a black-and-white cookie, which he did on a campaign stop in South Florida.
One of the key points of the book is to work out hard and often, which Obama does. Here's a quote from a friend of his in a Washington Post story:
He does it every day like clockwork," said Marty Nesbitt, one of Obama's closest friends from Chicago. "He doesn't think of it as something he has to do -- it's his time for himself, a chance for him to reflect. It's his break. He feels better and more revved up after he gets in his workout."
Co-author Crowley makes a really good point about Obama's workout regimen on the Younger Next Year Web page:
I am constantly being told, "I just do not have time to exercise. The kids, the travel, the job...yada yada yada." I tell, 'em every time: yes you do...it's just a question of priorities. Here is a modest case in point. Obama is a hair busier than you are. He makes time for it. He has to. You can too. You have to.
Oooh, got us there Mr. Crowley. I guess watching all 4 hours of the Today show does not count as "being busy." I shall get to the gym forthwith after my morning work, sir.
