Need a shot of motivation? Then check out the Today show on Mondays, when nutritionist Joy Bauer introduces viewers to men and women who have lost 100 pounds or more through diet and exercise and inducts them into her Joy Fit Club.
So barring a flying saucer attack or urgent Jon Gosselin news, my friend Lynn Haraldson Bering will be the latest member of the club this Monday, Nov. 2, most probably in the 10 a.m. hour.
She's already in Joy Bauer's book Joy's LIFE Diet: Four Steps to Thin Forever (Page 240!) but Monday is her official induction into the club.
Nearly two years ago, I sent Lynn an e-mail after reading of her 168-pound weight loss in People magazine. I interviewed her for my newspaper's weight-loss blog and we've been friends ever since. Cool thing, this Internet.
And this isn't the first time her fantastic achievement has been celebrated on TV. Lynn's a weight-loss superstar, appearing on Oprah, CNN, KDKA and a previous appearance on the Today show.
And yes, she has kept the weight off. She blogs about her maintenance at a couple of places: Her blog Lynn's Weigh: The Journey Continues and at the blog Refuse to Regain, where she writes with Dr. Barbara Berkeley, author of the book Refuse to Regain.
I'm extremely proud to call Lynn a friend and my weight-loss mentor and motivator.
Update: Here's Lynn's appearance on the Today show:

Another great Joy Fit Club story I've been meaning to mention is Kim Bensen, who was featured last year. Kim lost over 200 pounds and wrote a great book about her inspiring journey, Finally Thin! It also has more than 70 recipes. The Weight Watchers success story (just like Lynn!) also developed a line of light bagels, which she sells at her Web site kimbensen.com.
