If any of you moms out there are like me, cooking is not my expertise. I always tell myself, “If I had more time, I would love to learn how to cook better.” Let’s face it, I’m only working part-time, so far I only have one child, and I still don’t feel like I have “the time.” Not only that, but I specifically remember my husband gently asking me not to re-make a curry dish I had tried out one night.
That’s why I admire people who not only have the time; they also have a love for it. Those people generally make it look not only delicious, but effortless. People who don’t need measuring cups, who bravely combine different ingredients to see how it works together, or make a meal they have never made before for a dinner party of six, mesmerize me.
That’s part of the charm of the Picky Palate blog. Advertised as “Dressing up, simple family-friendly recipes, for even your pickiest eater” suggests that, even I, could make these delectable dishes, and my family might even like them! A couple of times each week, Jenny Flake, stay-at-home mother of two boys, updates her blog with newly invented recipes that she created herself. The pictures alone will make your mouth water, the presentation is beautiful, and the posts are personal. Recipes such as the Peanut Butter and Jelly Breakfast Braids, Roasted Banana Bread Brownie Bites, Apple Dippin’ Peanut Butter Cookies, and Sugar Dusted French Toast Donuts with Peanut Butter Maple Syrup, will leave you speechless. Flake also customizes different dished for holidays, parties and other events.
Flake, who competed on the Food Network’s Ultimate Recipe Showdown, also won the Best Family/Kids Food Blog from the Well Fed Network as well as numerous other awards. In addition, giveaways for children’s books, cookbooks, free food, gift bags and more, are frequently given away to fans who take a moment to enter on her blog.
I am a believer that having meals together has a strong positive impact on families. If the meals I make can be half as delicious as these, then it makes for an even better reason to gather together at the kitchen table. Like Flake professes, these recipes are simple, scrumptious, and definitely worth the time and effort. If you check out her blog, you just might find the perfect dish for your picky eaters.
