Did you know that you can combine your love of (or interest in) politics and travel? And better yet, you can do this without causing too much stress to your traveling companions.
If you're into everything political or have a passing interest in presidential tourism, definitely make your way to metro Atlanta and the surrounding areas.
Located in midtown is the Jimmy Carter Museum and Library. Love him, or not, this is someplace you need to see at least once when you are in Atlanta. One of 12 presidential libraries in the nation, you can take a journey through Carter's life. There's an exhibit on his early years, a replica of his Oval Office, an interesting collection of Head of State gifts and more. The museum also hosts different traveling collections related to presidents as well. If you are really into all things Carter, consider taking a road trip to Plains, his hometown.
Of course, you have to stop in The Varsity to grab a "naked dog" or "naked steak," and see the photos of past presidents who enjoyed the same with some rings and a F.O.
Now, about 53 miles (give or take) from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is the town of Warm Springs. Here, you'll find FDR's Little White House. He first came
here before he was elected president in hopes that the springs would provide a cure for his polio. While it didn't, it could be said that perhaps having the house here helped shaped different policies. Today, not only can you tour the home, but also in the museum, see his car, listen to his Fireside Chats and view the "Unfinished Portrait."
Whether you lean right or left, or somewhere in between, the next time you're in the metro Atlanta area and nearby, you can't pass up its presidential heritage.
