An assembly of volunteers and groups concerned with the education of talented and yet underprivileged students, GCSF holds its 4th annual fundraising picnic on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at Vasona Lake County Park in Los Gatos, CA.

The Gifted Children Scholarship Foundation was founded in 2000 and has since set its mission to find and support students who due to economical and social hardships, and despite their high aptitude for learning, are forced to leave school to provide for their families.

GCSF which grants such talented students with financial and moral supports also “works closely with these students” as its website suggests, “to ensure their academic success and overall well-being.” GCSF is in the process to become a 503(c)(3) non-profit entity. Void of any political and/or religious affiliation, the organization sets its goals to not only provide financial support but to encourage young students to participate in the development of the community they live in.

GCSF which started its services with only five students now serves more than sixty individuals and their families. Almost half of these students have been able to pass Iran’s nationwide annual university entrance exam Konkour to continue with their higher or vocational education. At the same time, with the financial help the rest of them have received from generous donations of Iranian Americans of the Bay Area, they have either started their own families—despite the harsh living condition bestowed on Iran’s lower class—or entered the job market with the hope to continue their education at a more suitable time.

The fundraising picnic promises to offer family fun, entertainment and food donated by local charitable individuals. Donations of $15 ($10 for children under 8) will be accepted on location or in advance at 408-239-3015. The event is open to all.
