A bus ablaze in Tehran

June 13, 2009

Thousands of protestors rushed into streets after the hardliner Ahmadinejad was pronounced the winner of Iran’s elections. According to news agencies, violent clashes have erupted between protestors and the riot police.

In the while, the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran has released an statement on June 13, 2009, requesting the international community to withhold recognition of the election results.

“The international community should not recognize the results of Iran’s 12 June 2009 presidential election,” the statement reads, “which gives all signs of having been manipulated by government authorities to produce a massive victory for incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. […]”

Reportedly, mobile service has been interrupted, telephone lines disconnected, and intenet service intermittent. There are also reports of black outs in major streets of Tehran and other metropolitan cities.

Iranian ex-pats have also organized peaceful protests in front of Islamic Republic's embassies around the world and are planning to gather across the UN building on Civic Center in San Francisco this afternoon at 5pm.
