Remember the old days of the "Welcome Wagon" where your parents would go when they moved to a new city? They would provide families with all types of information about the community plus it was a great way to meet other families or couples that shared your own similar interests. Hopefully, at least.
Well, Nashville, has a similar program for gay couples called Music City Couples whose mission is quite simple:
The organization serves to provide a forum for gay/lesbian committed couples to strengthen their own relationships while also providing a social and supportive structure for their fellow committed couples. Music City Couples holds no religious affiliations and makes every attempt to respect the privacy of its couples.
I have to say this is a great group for couples who have outgrown the bar scene. I've been to several functions and they are quite fun and lively thanks to the wonderful hosts, Bobby and Larry, who make you feel at ease right away. Some of the functions include monthly events such as: Dining out at restaurants,Video Movie Nights at members' homes, Pool Parties, Picnics in the Park, Members Hosting in their Homes, etc.
And this year they are hosting their 5th Annual Halloween Bonfire & Weiner Roast. Social hour always comes first. Mingle, mingle, mingle. While you are doing that the bonfire is started with a tent set up nearby with tables. Everyone is provided with roasting forks to cook their own weiners.
The backyard is decorated like an old graveyard with ghosts hanging from the trees; stuffing flies overhead (hmmm....wonder if that's turkey stuffing!) Bales of hay are placed around the campfire so we may catch on fire that much easier. Everyone is encouraged to dress up in costume but is not required. Of course, some of us dress as if it were Halloween all year round. Did I say that?
Then after everyone eats, everybody sits around the campfire roasting marshmallows, making smores, and telling horror stories about heterosexual encounters. Just a joke people so chill out...
If you are a couple new to the area or one that has lived here forever, I strongly recommend this group. It's a great way to meet new friends with similar interests and just a great way to network in general. There is no need to isolate yourself from the community once you become a couple. These wonderful people are here for you.
If you'd like to participate in the Halloween event, please contact Bobby or Larry by October 28th at: info@musiccitycouples.org
The party starts at 6:00 PM and ends at 11:00 PM
