If, like me, you have a commercially-manufactured nostalgia for the corner soda fountain à la "Leave It to Beaver," then the Edina Creamery is just what you're looking for in a neighborhood ice cream shop.

While most of our homegrown ice cream shops in the Twin Cities choose to promote their "local" and/or "natural" qualities, the Edina Creamery plays up the more traditional 1950's vibe, complete with checkerboard floors and red vinyl bar stools.

Like its theme, the homemade ice cream flavors at the Edina Creamery are fairly traditional, offering every oldie-but-goodie from Pralines and Cream to Orange Sherbet. My kids swear by the Cotton Candy (which is exactly the shade of blue that children love their food to be), while I could eat the Butter Chocolate Almond Crunch until the ambulance came to take me away.
