Excitement surrounding the Alabama men’s basketball program is at a level we haven’t seen since the Crimson Tide’s Elite 8 run in the ’03-’04 season. The reason for that excitement is new head coach Anthony Grant. Grant has brought his winning background, attitude, work ethic and smooth style to Tuscaloosa.
Back in March, the press conference officially introducing him as the new head coach at Alabama had more people crammed into the Naylor Stone Media Room (including yours truly) than perhaps any other single press conference at the University of Alabama. The introduction of Nick Saban probably has it beat, but honestly, if so not by much.
It’s like Alabama football games at Bryant-Denny Stadium. You can’t keep increasing the attendance numbers until you have more seats. Sports are kind of a big deal at Alabama and it does go beyond the top dog, football.
At SEC Basketball Media Day, I caught up with the first year head coach at Alabama. We talked about the things he’s been working on since he arrived in Tuscaloosa, the development of Mikhail Torrance and the staff he’s assembled at Alabama.
