When it comes to using cell phones, most Baby Boomers just use them to make and receive calls, not as a portal to the Internet.
A survey conducted by Millward Brown for the Hallmark Channel showed that just 35 percent of Boomers consider their mobile phone to be an entertainment device. More than one-half -- 52 percent -- of younger respondents turned to their mobile phones for entertainment.
Given a preference of consumer electronic devices, Boomer users 45 and older overwhelmingly chose personal computer/laptops over mobile phones 51 percent to 21 percent, while 18 to 24 year old user prefer the cell phone over the computer, 47 percent to 38 percent, according to Accenture.
But, while Baby Boomers are more comfortable using a phone as a phone, more and more are embracing technology.
The hottest Internet demographic is the 18 to 35 year olds.
But Baby Boomers make up nearly 30 percent of the online population and EMarketer.com reports that over the next four years, the number who use the Internet at least once a month will grow by more than four million, rising from 59.4 million in 2007 to 63.7 million in 2011.
A recent study by TV Land of Baby Boomer internet use said choice, control, clarity and community are what matter most to the group as they evaluate and make decisions related to new technology.
The study discovered that Boomers are most inclined to use technology when it follows emerging trends, keeps them connected with others, or introduces them to new gadgets or types of entertainment.
