To read some of what's out there these days you'd think that Baby Boomers as a group are personally responsible for everything from global warming to the economic meltdown.
But that's the reality -- we are being blamed for everything from climate change to the Wall Street bust.
"After strutting and tub-thumping and preening their way across the high ground of politics, media, culture and finance for 30 years, baby boomers have gone from top dogs to scapegoats in barely a year," says a commentary on CNN.com.
Ouch.
The writer, Marian Salzman, is chief marketing officer and a partner at Porter Novelli Worldwide. She, like others, believes the older Baby Boomer star is fading ... and none too soon.
"... after years of taking credit for changing the world, baby boomers are taking the rap for the reversal of fortune that's shaking the world," she says.
She notes the rise of the younger Boomers whom she calls the "cuspers." They've also been referred to as members of Generation Jones, or Generation Obama.
They were born between 1954 and 1965. These are the Barack Obama era Baby Boomers -- born technically as Baby Boomers, but eschewing the "it's all about me" values of Baby Boomers.
Their politics were bred not by the Vietnam War and Woodstock but the end of the Cold War and Live Aid.
But the changing of the guard for the sake of change does not necessarily mean better.
As Michael Barone noted in his U.S. News & World Report post: "The advantage of a new generation is that it brings fresh ideas and perspectives, a greater sense of possibility, and none of the weariness of fighting the same old battles. The disadvantage is that it lacks experience and doesn’t know the lessons of the past."
