Sleeping on it? Not Baby Boomers apparently
Baby Boomers aren't getting enough sleep, according to a survey.
The rub? The survey was sponsored by the Better Sleep Council.
And what does the sleep council suggest? You betcha, a new mattress.
The council is a non-profit organization supported by the mattress industry.
Despite the self-serving nature of the survey, there are some interesting statistics:
- Almost three-fourths of U.S. Baby Boomers are not getting a full eight hours of sleep each night. And they blame those sleepless nights on financial and family woes.
- 27 percent said they would be willing to sacrifice chocolate forever in exchange for great sleep every night for the rest of their life.
- 22 percent said they would silence their cell phones forever for great sleep every night.
- 4 percent of the female boomers said they would be willing to swap sex for a lifetime of better sleep.
Some sleep tips:
- Maintain a regular bed and wake time schedule.
- Establish a regular, relaxing bedtime routine.
- Create a sleep-conducive environment.
And, said the council:
"The bed should be used for sleep and sex only."
No televisions or laptops or other distractions.
And, said the council (drum roll, please) it’s important to sleep on a supportive and comfortable mattress.
The council said 27 million Baby Boomers sleep on a mattress more than seven years old. It recommends a mattress fewer than seven years old.
