AARP, both in print and on-line, has identified its Top 10 best employers for workers over the age of 50 for 2008:

1) Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., higher education

2) Scripps Health, San Diego, Calif., health care

3) SC Johnson, Racine, Wisc., consumer products

4) YMCA of Greater Rochester, Rochester, N.Y., philanthropy

5) Lee Memorial Health System, Fort Myers, Fla., health care

6) Securian, St. Paul, Minnesota, insurance

7) First Horizon National Corp., Memphis, Tenn., financial services

8) Stanley Consultant, Muscatine, Iowa, consulting services

9) Bon Secours Richmond Health System, Richmond, Virginia, health care

10) Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, Chicago, Ill., insurance

It's interesting to note how many of the Top 10 are associated with the health care industry either as caregiver or insurance. For Baby Boomers, as they continue to age, health care will become a vital issue.

AARP's list was published in the November/December issue of the magazine distributed to its members. In addition to print, the list -- with lots of companion information -- is listed on the AARP web site.

When it comes to jobs for Baby Boomers, also check out RetirementJobs.com's list of its age-friendly companies, including Macy's, Borders Books, Staples, and Wells Fargo.
