Fever complacent with just getting into playoffs
Indiana, sans Katie Douglas, looked lackluster as the Phoenix Mercury upended the Fever 106-90.
The western conference leading Mercury are trying to find some separation from the Seattle Storm who are currently on a six-game win streak even with Lauren Jackson watching from the sidelines with a stress facture in her back.
The Indiana Fever seem to be resting on its laurels lately losing five of its last eight games. Ever since the Fever clinched a playoff spot, the team has slid into mediocrity. It’s understandable that with the eastern conference wrapped up the players could rest a bit, but not when possible home court advantage is on the line.
Luckily for Indiana, the rest of the eastern conference wasn’t nearly as competitive this year as the
5 ½ game cushion illustrates. But with another loss the Indiana Fever just lost its tie break against the Mercury which can play out in home court advantage if these two teams meet in the WNBA Finals. Even though the Fever is dominating in the eastern conference, its 5-7 record against western conference teams isn’t quite compelling. How does the best team in the league lose to the
worst team in the league twice?
Indiana has five games remaining in the season, all against eastern conference opponents. Will the Fever come out with intensity that will propel the team into its first WNBA Finals appearance or will the Fever end the season how it began – with a couple more notches in the loss column?
