Liberty turns 17 point lead into 1 point loss

“This is exactly why I don’t watch sports,” my mom would say. “Why would you waste all your energy getting emotionally invested in something like that?” That’s a very good question – especially if you are a Liberty fan. The team is BAD. I mean really bad. After being
clobbered by the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday, the Liberty found a new way to lose by
blowing a 17 point lead to the Indiana Fever in overtime at home on Friday night. Yes, Katie Douglas got hot in the second half, but all
Janel McCarville had to do was hit one free throw.
I really don’t understand what’s troubling New York. The roster is pretty much the same from a season ago, no one is hurt, and the team even added a former WNBA head coach to the bench. Has the rest of the league gotten infinitely better but the Liberty? Has the Liberty just gotten worse? Do they not have the same fight that they did last season? I’ve been racking my brain for days about this and I have yet to have come up with a good answer.
Yes, the Liberty have problems rebounding, but they’ve always had problems rebounding and they still made the Eastern Conference Finals last season. What about the ridiculous amount of turnovers in which the Liberty are currently fourth in the league? It’s so bad turnovers are become as much of a staple to this team as seafoam green or
Maddie, the lovable dancing dog. Twenty-three turnovers and 65% free throw shooting isn’t going to win games. Friday’s showing is a testament to that. The Liberty need to find what worked for them last season: scoring from behind the arc, reestablishing Janel McCarville inside and of course defense, defense, defense.
It will be a quick turnaround for the Liberty. New York plays at Indiana on Saturday. If you’re life isn’t frustrating enough or you just like being inexplicably provoked then check out the game on WNBA LiveAccess (God willing) at 7pm eastern.
