Lunch version of the Guiness beef boxy

Tasty and filling are the first two words that come to mind about Two Fools Tavern.  At the top of my favorites is their lunch-sized Guinness beef boxy.  The beef has been slowly simmered with Guinness, potatoes, carrots, and stock then it’s folded in a potato pancake.  Definitely a great comfort food and perfect for a cold, windy day.  They have a full and half size portion.  The half size was a perfect choice for lunch at $6.95.

Their cottage pie also comes highly recommended.  The beef, onions, carrots, and peas are topped with whipped potatoes and yummy cheddar cheese.  The large portion is just that, very hearty.  So if you come for lunch, consider the lunch sized version at $6.25.

And yes, they do have corned beef and cabbage.  What authentic Irish pub wouldn’t!

Now, when you think Irish you don’t necessarily think vegetarian, but they do have some non-meat menu items to choose from.  They have a grilled Portobello sandwich, a chipotle black bean burger and black bean quesadillas, as well as a few salad choices.

The inside has that feeling of an Irish tavern.  The warm atmosphere, great bar, dark wood and dark upholstery make you feel right at home.  Too bad most lunch times can’t include a pint of ale, but maybe you can come by on a Saturday and enjoy one of their many brews from the tap.

If you check out their website while goofing off at work (and who doesn’t) just make sure to turn down your speakers, but enjoy the sound of Irish tunes that make you want to tap your toes.

The tavern is located in the Nob Hill section of Albuquerque.  3211 Central Avenue NE, just west of Carlisle.  Definitely worth the trip!
