In an attempt to appease our need for Thai, my coworkers and I tried Thai House. I enjoyed the Thai dumplings with chicken and vegetables and the accompanying bean sauce. And I must admit that I also nibbled on the cilantro that was more for presentation, but I couldn't resist.
I also tried the spring rolls with chicken, onion, cabbage, bamboo shoots, celery, glass noodles, and mung bean. They were an excellent balance of flavor and the shell was perfectly crisp. The sauce with the spring rolls was strangely clear and almost too sweet, so I ate mine without the sauce and was more than happy.
When it came to their entrees though, food requested to be spicy hot was extremely mild. Not that my coworkers and I wanted to our food to make us cry, but we were looking forward to that spice that makes you go “wow that hurt, but I want more”.
I enjoyed my previous visit to Thai house and I will definitely go back. I want to try some more of their appetizers, their steamed mussels, and soup. I just won’t go expecting to get a spicy meal.
There are a lot of vegetarian dishes to choose from including their vegetarian spring rolls with onion, celery, cabbage, bamboo shoot, and noodle or you can ask to substitute tofu in one of their entrees and leave out any possible fish sauce. My vegetarian friend swears by their musmun curry dish. She has tofu substituted for the meat choices and it includes coconut milk, onions, potatoes, peanuts, and herbs.
If you live on campus at the University of New Mexico, this is a good place to get something different than the usual fast food. You can find Thai House at 106 Buena Vista Dr SE. This is just off of Central Avenue across from the University of New Mexico.
