After processing the unfortunate and untimely death of Michael Jackson, one thing becomes abundantly clear.  Michael dreamed of a beautiful, peaceful, simple world knowing full well, for him and his stardom it was not.  It is evident in his words, " I'm starting with the man in the mirror, I'm asking him to make a change, and no body could have said it any clearer if you want to make this world a better place take a look at yourself and make a change". Whether you liked Michael Jackson's music or not, whether you felt he was a good person or not, the words to his music, and these in particular, were an ode to this world.Michael Jackson Cocktail

Long Islander's feeling blue from all the rain this June 2009, can certainly have a reason to feel down.  However, the birds are still chirping, the hanging plants for Mother's Day are still blooming, and you know that tomorrow there is always the promise of a sunny, warm, peaceful summer day, .

Whether or not it is raining or sunny, gathering with people you care about, sitting around on a porch, fixing a cocktail for the adults, telling funny stories of yester-year... it's a fantastic thing not to be taken for granted.

This cocktail, named the Michael Jackson Cocktail uses fresh fruit....hopefully from a local market or farmstand will make you sing..."the way you make me feel.....!"

The Michael Jackson Cocktail

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup ice cubes (about 4)
  • juice from 1 lime (roll on counter top first to release juice sacks for optimal juicing)
  • 5 strawberries, cut in 1/2
  • 1/2 cup fresh seedless watermelon, cut in chunks
  • 1/4 cup Cointreau (orange flavored liqueur, widely available in any liquor store and generally used in Margarita's)
  • 1/2 cup Tequila (for this purpose, I choose Jose Quervo Gold.  It has real tequila flavor with smokey notes, but is not  a super premium variety that is better used for sipping straight)

Directions

In a blender, add all ingredients

Blend on high until all ingredients are well incorporated

Serve in low ball glass on the rocks (over ice) and garnish with strawberry

Non Alcoholic Version of the Michael Jackson Cocktail

For the kid in you

Ingredients

  • Same as above, minus the Cointreau and Tequila
  • 1/2 cup of Orange Juice ( I choose Tropicana Pure Premium)
  • 1/4 cup of fruit punch
  • 1 creamcicle bar or 1 Del Monte Fruit Chiller, any flavor

Directions

Prepare the cocktail the same as alcoholic version

Serve in tall glass and garnish with straw
