One year ago on October 24th, Sarasota Millionaires player Delvis Fernandez was tragically killed. The team dedicated the entire 2008-09 season to the memory of Delvis who was an inspirational leader both on and off the field. The following posted courtesy of the Millionaires website:
“This Saturday October 24th will make one year since our beloved Delvis left this earth. The Millionaires ask that you please keep his family & friends in your thoughts & prayers during this difficult time. Delvis was the only child and his mother will never be the same. She is a very strong lady who The Millionaires love very very much. We have promised to keep his memory alive, and that's just what we will continue to do! We Miss You So Much Delvis! Gone, But NEVER Forgotten! The jersey #3 that Delvis would have worn has now since been retired. A retirement jersey celebration is planned this upcoming season in his honor.”
Full contact practice begins this Saturday for the Millionaires 9AM to 11:30AM and on Sunday 4PM to 6:30PM at Booker High School in Sarasota, FL.
