Monarch Farms is located at 2916 West Townline Road in Midland. They raise and sell Belted Galloway cattle. Here is part of the story:

"Belted Galloways are often humorously referred to as the OREO Cow, since they resemble the famous cookie. The distinctive white belt around the middle of their bodies may vary in width and regularity, but usually cover most of the body from the shoulders to the hooks.

Descending from the Galloway Breed, they are larger in stature, heavier in milk production, and grow more rapidly than their forbearers. The stunning contrast of their white to black color pattern sets this breed apart from ordinary black & white cattle. The fore part of the udder may be within the white belt. In the summertime, their black color may exhibit a brownish tint.

Originating in Scotland, the Belties were first imported into the United States in 1950 by a gentleman named Harry Pock of Pennsylvania. While the number of belties first imported were not large, the breed is becoming more popular due to their heartiness and gentle dispositions."

They also take orders for grass-fed beef and pork freezer meat. Email them at monarchfarms@voyager.net for more information.

They sell strawberries through mid-June and pumpkins in the autumn. They are constructing a rustic campground area for family camping.

The Mid-Michigan Creamery is part of Monarch Farms. They make Caprine Classic Chèvre Blanc goat cheese and flavor it deliciously:

  • Dill & Garlic
  • French Onion
  • Horseradish Cheddar
  • Onion Pepper
  • Seasoned Sesame
  • Western Ranch

According to their website:

"Best served at room temperature, to enhance the flavor. Keeps well for 2-weeks with refrigeration. The plain, unseasoned, cheese can be frozen for up to 6-months. "

Mary Jane Toth is an author and well-known cheese maker. She offers workshops to teach you about making goat milk cheese.
